They refused to have grab rails installed because of the stigma attached with the stale hospital looking rails. My grandpa had a minor stroke during this time and could no longer hold his balance. He fell multiple times and eventually broke his leg before he was forced to move into a nursing home. My grandma had always refused to go into a nursing home even after breaking her hip from a fall.
